An extensive two-month journey through the Australian Coast is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The liner departed without her and came back several hours later after the crew discovered the lady was not present.

A major hunt found her body the next day.

Officials are investigating the event, together with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and crew on the ship were told that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also issued an latest statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" banning any additional guests from entering the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Chronology of Incidents

The liner first departed Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the journey at the time of the senior passenger's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the journey.

Travelers on board - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to take part in the cruise - were ferried there for a shore visit with the choice of trekking or snorkeling.

Relatives Statement

The child of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "stunned and grieved that the vessel left Lizard Island after an planned outing without my parent".

Through her comments, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a walking club.

"From the little information we have been told, it appears that there was a lapse of care and basic judgment," she mentioned.
